The scheduled project work is structured into six work packages as to be seen in the figure below. The first three WP‘s deal with the identified scientific bottlenecks and case studies on primary and secondary resource. WP 4 supports the three aforementioned WP‘s with respect to analyses, characterization of the resources as well as with the development of appropriate methodologies. WP 5 aims at the integration of the processes as well as the sustainability assessment. Objectives of WP 6, finally, are adequate coordination and widespread dissemination of achieved results through scientific publications and patents.

EcoMetals is a transnational research project aiming at the development of innovative biohydrometallurgical processes for the extraction of copper and other (associated) metals from coppershale.. The project receives funding from the French ANR (L’Agence nationale de la recherche) and the German Ministry of Education and Research BMBF (Bundesministerium für Bildung und Forschung) under the reference number 033RF001.

In total, 17 partners from science and industry collaborate in this project. Start of the project was in February 2014 and it will run until June 2017.
